Pfizer is conducting an arbitrary pilot Research on Electronic Monitoring of OAB Treatment Experience (REMOTE) virtual trial in order to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of Detrol LA. The treatment is developed by the company to treat for overactive bladder (OAB).
Pfizer and its research partners hope that the results of this REMOTE virtual trial can imitate the result of the previously conducted Phase IV Detrol LA trial. Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Pfizer, Freda Lewis-Hall said that the REMOTE virtual trial pilot will enable the patients to participate in clinical trials without visiting physical sites.
This REMOTE virtual trial is being carried out under an investigational new drug (IND) application using electronic tools.
Pfizer believes that the results of virtual clinical trial could encourage the U. S. Food and Drug Administration to authorize other virtual drug trials of the company. The trail has received appreciation from the Director of FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Janet Woodcock. He has encouraged other manufacturing companies to com forward with more innovative ideas and hold discussions with the agency regarding trial design and oversight.
