Principal of the Isle of Wight College, Deborah Lavin, has been recognized in this year's Queens Honors list. She has been awarded a CBE for services to further education.
She said that she is extremely delighted to achieve to award but the improvements in the college was a team effort. She added that the college staff has helped her in achieving this award and it is the proudest moment of her life.
Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, Deborah Lavin told that she could believe the news as it came as a surprise for her. She broke into tears after receiving the award.
A volunteer at Southampton's teaching hospitals, Malcolm Kitson, 75, is also among those who were honored in the Queens Honors list. Mr. Kitson has been appointed as MBE for his voluntary service to Southampton General Hospital.
After receiving the honor, Mr. Kitson said, “I am extremely humbled and very grateful to be recognised for something I am so passionate about”.
Mr. Kitson runs a counseling programme for students looking for a career in healthcare. The counseling programme has helped more than 800 people.
