GlaxoSmithKline Drug Called Off Due To Harmful Additive

It has been revealed that the Pharmaceutical Giant GlaxoSmithKline has been asked to withdraw a number of medicines. They have been ordered to take back these medicines on the allegation that a few of them contain a chemical additive that is harmful for the use of children.

It has been revealed that the name of the medicine is Augmentin and it is antibiotic syrup. This syrup is supposedly adulterated with such an additive that is harmful for the health of the children. The Department of Health is of the view that this syrup should be called back. A similar step has been taken in Hong Kong as well.

This is an extended step of the plasticizer scare. There are a number of other medicines that have been banned as well. There is need to scrutinize the salts of each medicine before giving them to children.

A spokesman was of the view that “It is a fact that the department has not received any report of adverse events related to the product, but GSK has failed to demonstrate the safety of the tainted product to our satisfaction”. He further added, “The threat to public health cannot be ruled out as this stage”.
