Recently, it has been found that shellfish that is harvested from the southeastern tip of the state consists of high concentrations of a dangerous poison that can take life of innocent humans. Therefore, public health officials have warned Alaskans to avoid eating these.

According to State officials, scientists have monitored algae blooms near Ketchikan and they have revealed some of the world's highest-ever recorded levels of toxins there. These toxins contain a potentially fatal ailment and therefore, these by causing paralytic shellfish poisoning can paralyze vital organs of a human body.

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, while warning the general public, said that the most poisonous shellfish that they have discovered at a dock in Ketchikan are the baby mussels. In every hundred grams of shellfish meat, these have toxin levels of more than 30,000 micrograms. This is something that is considered as toxic over the 80-microgram level.

On Thursday, in a statement, the University of Alaska Southeast said, that such a level of toxins in shellfish meat are so high that even a single mussel could kill several people.
