Google-owned video-sharing website YouTube and Vivendi's Universal Music Group are deliberating about the construction of an online music website - the idea being proposed by Universal to YouTube last year, for including videos from all bigwigs of music!
Though there is no news of a joint venture between the two companies on the cards, sources familiar with the discussions told CNET News. com and the Wall Street Journal that as per the partnership terms under consideration, YouTube would provide the technology for selling ad- accompanied music videos.
To be called 'Vevo,' the site would supposedly be the largest online site for music videos. It is anticipated that the site would almost certainly attract comparatively much higher advertising rates as compared to YouTube. In fact, Vevo appears more likely to show a profit than a pay-to-download plan because well-known labels will compel YouTube to cripple downloads.
Sources say that Google is analyzing the upshot of the proposed plan, thereby rushing forth with its endeavors to find a real revenue stream!
Nonetheless, the information about the ongoing talks is somewhat surprising, considering the fact that music videos are already available on the normal YouTube site. Moreover, expecting YouTube and Universal to together create a superlative online counterpart of MTV - which has essentially discarded videos - would be asking for too much!
