The acute shortage of physicians for primary care at New Jersey is worrisome. It has been revealed that the patients at New Jersey are made to wait longer to get their disease treated. The experts are worried that the shortage in the coming future will grow manifold.
Patients with insurance are also struggling to get a family doctor. People living in rural area are covering miles to reach out to doctors. It is believed that in the coming years the situation is going to be dire as policymakers are planning to increase the workload of the current physicians.
A report upon physician workforce complied by the New Jersey Council of Teaching Hospitals has revealed that there is shortage of physicians for family medicine, geriatrics, obstetrics and pediatric fields. It is predicted that in 2020 there will be shortage of about 3,000 physicians if nothing is done at the moment.
Heavy interest rates on Health insurance have been accused of cause shortage of physicians. However, while commenting upon the shortage of doctors, the President of New Jersey Association of Health Plans said that more carriers are looking at alternative systems that pay doctors for the quality of patient outcomes, not the quantity of visits.
