Meal Monotony Can Lead To Weight Loss: Study

Meal monotony can lead to the shedding of extra kilos in the body, suggest US researchers at the University of Buffalo. Eating the same food again and again in the consecutive meals will make a person feel bored from the food which will result in the reduction of the appetite.

The study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition had examined 32 women who were given some computer work. Throughout their working hours they were only provided with macaroni and cheese. All the participants finished five sessions. Some of the participants did one session every day for five consecutive days and the rest did sessions, once a week for five weeks.

The appetite of the group who had macaroni and cheese every day for a week reduced and they started taking 100 less calories each day by the week's end. While, the calorie rate increased in the women who performed such sessions once a week and they ate 30 more calories a day.

The American Society for Nutrition Spokesperson, Shelley McGuire, stated that the study "provides a very interesting new piece to the obesity puzzle by suggesting that meal monotony may actually lead to reduced calorie consumption".
