Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, 56, has been treated with cancer and now is back in Venezuela. Chavez went to Cuba to get his first session of chemotherapy done. Socialist leader told that he underwent surgery last month in Havana to get remove his baseball-sized cancerous tumor. He did not reveal the type of cancer he had.
Mr. President has been in power since 1999, and said that he has planned to stand for re-election in 2012, despite of his illness. Chavez said, “I have come back better than I left, thanks to God”. He has been planning for second round of chemotherapy, but he does not know the exact date of his travel, back to the communist-led Caribbean island.
He got warm welcome on his return at Maiquetía airport, and told that malignant cell have not been found in any part of his body. But there was risk, and for that he underwent a week long session of chemotherapy. He found the session to be tiring and tough, but he said he has a body of a soldier and therefore he should take it.
He still fears that risk would continue and owing to that his treatment would be maintained. He went through two surgeries, one for pelvic and second one for tumor.
