The death of famous British singer Amy Winehouse has aroused the issue of drug addiction and its consequences. Amy, just 27 years old, was stressed with her addiction to drugs and alcoholism. Her addiction surpassed her talent of singing, which resulted in her death.
The singer’s song “Rehab” brilliantly revealed the problem of addiction to drugs, but unfortunately she died. As per NHS, a person can get addicted to anything at all from alcohol to chocolates. It starts with experience followed by frequent consumption that ultimately led to addiction. Apart from Amy, there were many celebrities who were severely addicted to hard drugs. Like Amy, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Kobain, Bob Marley, Mama Cass, Elvis Presley, Keith Moon and many more died due to this addiction.
According to Dr. Gillian Tober, President of the Society for the Study of Addiction, "It is usually for social reasons - boyfriend, girlfriend, group of friends - it's usually not pleasant but there is a social reward”. Dr. Tober further states that drugs directly affect the brain, firstly the brain becomes accustomed with the drug, then it becomes habitual of having it and finally, the brain starts craving for it each time in a larger quantity than before.
