The availability of an update to fix three security issues associated with its AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule products, has been announced by Apple.

The Cupertino, California based software producer has stated that the Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station Update 7.4.1. is comprised of bug fixes and security patches for all AirPort Extreme Base Stations with 802.11n, AirPort Express Base Stations with 802.11n, and Time Capsules.

Apple has said that three security holes have been plugged in latest update, which includes one security patch that prevents a denial of service attack and two security patches that prevent causing unexpected device shutdowns; one for local network and the other for remote network.

According to Apple, in the latest update, the company has fixed three security flaws including the most serious one which could let a remote user to cause a denial of service, inject forged packets and observe private network traffic; the company has plugged the security hole including serious vulnerability in the implementation of the IPv6 Neighbor Discovery Protocol.

Apple explained that the attackers can exploit the security flaw through a maliciously crafted message due to improper validation of the origin of Neighbor Discovery messages. It can let a remote attacker to exploit the situation to cause a denial of service, observe private network traffic or inject forged packets.

Apple has said, "Firmware Version 7.4.1 is installed into Time Capsule or AirPort Base Station with 802.11n via AirPort Utility, provided with the device. AirPort Utility 5.4.1 or later should be installed before upgrading to firmware Version 7.4.1. AirPort Utility 5.4.1 or later may be obtained through the Apple Support Downloads site."
