The Toronto, Canada-based Backtype, which has quite recently added a new feature - Backtype Connect - to its service, has raised $300,000 in a seed funding round led by True Ventures.
The Y Combinator summer program alum, Backtype, had earlier managed a $15,000 to meet its launch requirements last August. With its evident potential, the young company got nominated in the best bootstrapped startup category at the Crunchies this year.
With the newly-released Backtype Connect feature, the company - which allows casual as well as business users search comments across a number of blogging platforms and social sites - intends facilitating the search and view comments across the web by entering the URL of a particular blog post or article.
As a result of Backtype's focus of late on Twitter, yet another new website, BackTweets, has been launched specifically for the purpose of tracking conversations - via keywords or URL - on the micro-blogging site. Since Backtype follows the most-tweeted links, it gives users concurrent information about the most up-to-date conversation topics on the site.
The seed funds will provide for the company's continued development, and also for financing its planned move from Toronto to Silicon Valley in the near future! Talking about the Silicon Valley, Backtype founder Christopher Golda said: "There's no comparison - Way more opportunities to meet people, do biz dev, get funding, everything!"
