In a sudden, unexpected move the Illinois-based Sears Holdings has gone in for the acquisition of the Israeli social search engine Delver, a few days before the company was scheduled to shut down its operations! The move saves Delver's remaining 20 employees from going jobless in Israel.
According to the Israeli business media reports, the recent takeover - the financial aspects of which, though expected to be on the 'cheap' side, remain undisclosed - has enabled Sears to control an Israeli R&D team. The terms of the takeover imply that Liad Agmon, CEO Delver, will shift to Chicago, and will be a newly-appointed Vice President at Sears Holdings.
Largely deemed a smart social search engine, Delver not only enables the users to locate a wealth of information built up by the social world around, but also to familiarize with it for gainful pursuits.
With people creating and sharing content online by the way of an ever-exhaustive list of websites, blogs, reviews, videos, articles, music and the like, Delver users can discern and gain from the shared wisdom contributed by groups of like-minded people.
Delver, which delivers relevant search results by establishing a cross-link of all pertinent content with a user's social graph, will likely become Sears' R&D center, continuing to widen its social graph search engine, along with developing some additional products.
