While commenting on the forecasted $60-million aid for a new family health centre in Orleans, the chairman of the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), Dr. William Keon, has marked it as most exciting project of his career.
"Imagine a doctor or nurse walking down the hall to consult with a specialist, or getting immediate access to diagnostic tests, or having onsite support for mental health services, issues, or being able to get you enrolled immediately or in specialty clinics”, said Alex Munter, CEO of the Champlain LHIN.
"This is patient-oriented care and this is the true potential of the project we are now embarking on”, he added.
Public, particularly those who advocate a family health centre have applauded the announcement as the unit is expected to offer a wide range of essential health facilities including primary care, outpatient care as well as cancer and chronic pain treatment under one roof.
In addition, the Provincial Infrastructure Minister, Bob Chiarelli said that the funding is there and has been set aside.
“It has been included in the budget and as soon as you can get the ground broken, the money will be flowing”, he said.
Meanwhile, the area health leaders have tagged the unit which is to be constructed on Mer Bleue Road near Innes Road as blend of a clinic and a hospital.
