Mr. Bloomberg’s Proposal Disapproved by the US Government

The proposal of Mayor Michael Bloomberg' to bar the New York City’s food stamp users from buying soda and other sugary drinks has been rejected the Government of Obama. The rejection is a sought of third time failure met by the Mayor willing to formulate new and benefitting policies.

Mr. Bloomberg, along with Dr. Thomas A. Farley, who planned to fight obesity and poor nutrition standard in New York, were highly disappointed with the decision. According to Dr. Farley, around 57%adults and 40% children of the city were victim of obesity and the problem was in excess among people with low income.

A letter from the administrator of food stamp program in Washington stated that the concept was too difficult and huge to be implemented. As per Mr. Bloomberg, “We think our innovative pilot would have done more to protect people from the crippling effects of preventable illnesses like diabetes and obesity than anything else being proposed elsewhere in this country — and at little or no cost to taxpayers”.

However, the decision of the administration favored the soft drinks manufacturing company, who had appealed against the proposal, stating that the proposal will take away the rights of soft drink companies from selling their products like other commodities.
