Canada Post and the Grey Bruce Regional Health Centre Foundation is looking to raise 360,000 dollars for the new nuclear medicine equipment. The campaign named Foundation's Angel Campaign has been launched.
Executive Director Paul Weitendorf says angel decorations have been mailed out to Grey Bruce residences. People can return the angels to the Foundation along with a donation. The angels would be used to decorate a huge poinsettia tree at Heritage Place Mall.
Weitendorf also said that the nuclear medicine department at Grey Bruce Health Services needs a new camera. The new camera is competent to find "hot spots" and subtle changes in a patient's body. The changes are largely undetectable by standard X-rays.
The new camera will replace a 15- year-old machine. The Owen Sound hospital is the only one in the region which can offer nuclear medicine testing. The hospital conducts more than 5,500 tests each year.
The equipment would also be of use for medical students during their training.
The purchase of the machine is important as it will prevent people from travelling to get similar services elsewhere.
