Animal control officers found a rabid bat, which they picked up from the sidewalk on Clarendon Street in Boston's Back Bay area on Tuesday. A day after the officials found the bat, they ran tests to confirm the illness that it can spread in which they found the bat positive for rabies.

There were news that a person was bitten by the rabid bat, whom the health officials are still looking for. Authorities have confirmed that they have at least two reports that suggest that someone had been bitten by the rabid bat.

To find more clues of the person got bitten by the bat, the public health officials are asking all the people, if anyone has had direct contact with the animal. They have also urged the public to notify the authorities and contact a physician, if there is any such case.

All efforts are being put by the authorities as precautionary measures to make sure that the bats do not spread rabies illness in the region, which actually has been the primary source of rabies deaths in the United States.

Though rabies usually cause two to three deaths each year averagely, thousands of people have to take shots as a preventive measure so that rabies do not spread even after exposure to rabid animals.
