Medtronic Accepts Defects in Insulin Pumps

Medtronic Inc has accepted that the defects in its security insulin pumps could help hackers control the device with a remote.

However, company officials have notified that the 200,000 diabetes patients who have been using the device should not worry as the risk of the cyber attack was near to the ground.

A cyber security expert, Jay Radcliffe, revealed the vulnerability of the device in a conference held in Las Vegas in the beginning of this month. Radcliffe notified that the device was full of flaws as hackers can easily control the device. He said that by accessing the serial number of the device the hackers can easily control the device.

Medtronic is one of the biggest medical device makers and has created life saving devices like pacemakers and defibrillators. This pump made by the company has been known as Paradigm and the modals which have been claimed as to be defective were 512, 522, 712, and 722.

Medtronic's Diabetes Division Research and Development Vice President John Mastrototaro stated that the company will properly scrutinize the matter and its weakness will be avoided in the upcoming insulin devices that the company has been producing.

He added, “We have a lot of activities going around on this topic now”.
