Is State Intervention Required For Severe Childhood Obesity Cases?

Obesity has always been a cause of concern and childhood obesity can either bring in long-term diseases or sometimes these diseases can turn out to be fatal at an early age.

Doctors, legal representatives and child welfare specialists have been struggling after a question was raised in the Journal of the American Medical about the role of state intervention, if the children suffer from obesity.

Severe childhood obesity results in lifelong problems like liver dysfunction, respiratory troubles and diabetes and sometimes in extreme cases it can turn out to be lethal at a young age.

It has been notified that state intervention can turn out as lifesaving in many of the cases. As they can set certain goals, which would be helpful for the cases when all other options have been tried and have turned out futile.

Madison University of Wisconsin Professor of pediatrics Dr. Norman Fost stated that the main aim of the state intervention will be to prevent the deaths due to obesity factor, where the physician knows that the child would not be able to live for much longer. After trying homing health services, nutritionist advice, health food and education, if the child doesn't overcome the obesity factor than state intervention would be required.
