The Food and Drug Administration has approved new Nucynta for the adults suffering from chronic pains, Johnson & Johnson notified Friday.
The painkiller is an extended-release edition, and can be taken twice a day by adults suffering low to high density of enduring pain.
Older version of the drug was approved in the year 2008 for relieving the patients above 18 years of age. Nucynta has been enlisted as opioid, and has an elevated possibility for abuse as the consumers can psychologically rely on the medication only.
Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) has approved the drug as it carries risk of addiction, abuse, overuse and misuse. Before the approval, nearly 1,100 patients suffering from all types of chronic pain were medicated on the drug for around a year and the trial was successful and safe.
According to the CDC figures, nearly 42 million adult Americans have been suffering from chronic pain. National Institute of Pain MD Sunil Panchal stated that chronic pains have been a severe problem as a large amount of population has been affected by it. Hence it required changes in treatment but no treatment proved success. However, the approval of the current edition may be satisfying news for both, patients and physicians.
