Apple rolls out third generation iPod shuffle

The third generation iPod shuffle, with talking feature was released by Apple on Wednesday. The new iPod shuffle is half the size of the previous shuffle, and it speaks the names of songs and artists, which is possibly one of the most intresting features of the device.

According to Apple, the new iPod shuffle is world's smallest digital music player. The new iPod shuffle uses the VoiceOver technology to tell the names of songs and singers, and this feature provides a new way to navigate music on the screenless device; the new iPod shuffle can tell "what song is playing and who is singing the song?" The VoiceOver technology of the new iPod shuffle also tells users how much battery is left, and it can speak in 14 languages including English, Mandarin, Japanese, Turkish, German, and French.

The VoiceOver feature works by synchronizing with iTunes software, which installs a voice kit on the user's computer. Greg Joswiak, Apple vice president of iPod marketing, said, "You previously couldn't have multiple playlists on the iPod Shuffle because you couldn't really switch between them as there was no way to know how you would switch," "So now instead of seeing, you get to hear."

Another notable feature is that the controls of the new Shuffle have been shifted from the device to the earphone cord. The new iPod shuffle is small, about the size of an AA battery, but it can store up to 1,000 songs. It has storage capacity of 4GB. The new device is available in both black and silver for $79.
