42 Hospitalized After Bromine Chemical Leak in Russia City: Report

In a shocking leak of bromide leak in a rail car at 7:35 am (1:35 GMT), health warnings have been passed in and around the Chelyabinsk railway terminal.

While actual cause of the leak is yet to be ascertained, 42 people have been hospitalized on Thursday and around 12 are in dire need of medical attention.

Media reports showed yellow cloud over the station, thereby indicating that humans could be at a risk of health concerns if not being properly taken care of.

As a precautionary step, schools were closed and further, people were being cautioned to limit their movement in open areas by staying inside and even not to get exposed to open air.

While health warnings are being circulated across the nearby regions, Moscow-based chemist Alexei Korunov has expressed grave concern over the potential consequences of the incident.

"Bromine is a strong poison, not just an irritant. It really is dangerous", said Korunov.

Being used to make people unconscious, bromide has its medical relevance. Despite the fact that local medical authorities called people to stay calm, the toxic gas is reported to entails the possibility of affecting internal body system of an individual.
