Welsh Teacher, Student Find Solution To Breast Cancer Spread Problem
Breast Cancer

A Welsh research student Luke Piggott from Cardiff University, Wales, conducted a research in which he thought of a concept that a method should be devised in which root cause of breast cancer should be eradicated.

In the case of breast cancer, stem cells are the ones which spread the cancer to other body parts so he in his research switched off the breast cancer causing stem cells that get immune to drug used to treat cancer.

If percentage of these cells is to be considered, then it is just 1% but its effect is equal to 100%. Experts believe that these stem cells are responsible for growth of cancer as well as help it to spread. In his research, Piggott used TRAIL, which is an anti-cancer drug and has been used for the first time for the treatment of breast cancer, this drug made the cancer causing cells sensitive to the breast cancer cells.

In first trial, this drug killed 98% of the cells and by second time, it killed all of them and even those who reappeared.

Piggott’s guide Richard Clarkson was his partner for this research he affirmed that they are confident after seeing result of their research that they have a solution to stop the multiplicity of the cancer in other body parts.
