Why is Apple's third-generation iPod Shuffle so special?

The third-generation iPod Shuffle, which Apple released on Tuesday, is special in many ways. It has several new features that many of you guys had never seen before.

One of the most notable features of new iPod Shuffle is that it has no buttons; it has no buttons, no knobs, and no screen. Apple has removed five-button control pad from its new iPod Shuffle; there is virtually nothing, except the Apple logo on the backside of the gadget

No buttons? Then, what’s there to control the new iPod shuffle?

Well, Apple has introduced earbud control in the new iPod shuffle. Apple earbuds feature three buttons – one for volume up, another for volume down, and a third multifunction button – to control the new iPod Shuffle.

You can use the multifunction button for almost all playback functions; you can press it to play or pause playback; you can press it twice to skip forward a track and thrice to skip back a track; twice and hold it to scan forward and thrice and hold it to scan backward. You can use the volume buttons to “scroll” through the list and press the multifunction button to select a playlist.

When you press the button once and hold it, the new iPod shuffle speaks up the name of the current song, and when you press it once and hold it longer, the device tells you the names of playlists. Interesting, isn’t it?

Yes, the VoiceOver feature or the talking feature is one of the most interesting features of the new iPod shuffle. The device uses the VoiceOver technology to speak the names of songs and singers, and thus the screenless device offers a new innovative way to navigate music.
The new iPod shuffle can also tell how much battery is left. It can speak in 14 languages including English, Mandarin, Japanese, Turkish, German, and French. That’s wonderful!

Finally, the new iPod shuffle is easy-to-handle and easy-to-carry device. It is 0.7 X 1.8 X 0.3 inches in size and it weighs about 0.38 ounce. It is a minuscule device, approximately about the size of an AA battery, which you can easily carry in your pocket or small purse. It is small, but it can hold up to 1,000 songs; its storage capacity is 4GB.

The new iPod shuffle has been acclaimed by most of tech watchers and reviewers, but some say its earbud control that is only one way to control, is its major drawback. This limitation may not attract the people who prefer using different headphones, for better sound, better noise isolation, or better comfort.

Overall, Apple’s new iPod shuffle is attracting the attention of people. The new iPod shuffle is available in both black and silver for $79.
