Patient Services Needs to Be Insured Against Exploitation
Ontario-Health

The Ontario Health Coalition is of the view that doctors should be banned from charging block fees from patients. Under normal circumstances, doctors charge block fee or flat fees for a set of services they shall provide, which is uninsured, according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The reason the coalition is opposing it is because this type of advance fees, is often subject to abuse. People sometimes don’t seem to get the right treatment and they end up paying too much for it.

“I think it’s a slippery slope that we’re on. The more we allow the emergence of private clinics that charge fees for services, the more we will see private companies and physicians pushing the envelope”, said Dr. Natalie Mehra from the coalition.

It is essential that some strict standards are set for the doctors as well as patients, so that’s they are both satisfied and none of them feel cheated.

There need to guidelines laid so that the patients are not exploited and so that services are rendered to them stay insured and definite. The Coalition is of the view that fee schedules should be put to action for the same purpose.
