It seems good news for diabetic patients as a new treatment, in the name of maggot debridement therapy, has come up to heal diabetic wounds. It has been known that the diabetic wounds are being suffered by patients at times as long as more than a year, but with this new treatment, hopes have raised that a cure is near to ensure such problems are being dealt with the desired attention.

In order to substantiate the claim, a team led by Dr. Lawrence Eron, from Kaiser Hospital and the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, roped in 37 patients having peripheral vascular disease with wounds as long as five years.

Post putting 50 to 100 maggots on the wounds for two days, it was found that the wounds were a lot better and healing had started taking place. The team got a success rate of 78% tagged as eradication of infection while over 75% experienced the wounds to be closed.

Though the team is quite positive about the results, it’s being expected that a lot number of patients would not prefer to try this out, with mere imagination that maggots would be crawling on their wounds.

Though there is a possibility of failure also as there are some unique cases, it’s better to give it a try instead of reeling under pain for rest of the life.
