It's probably one of the most talked about new laptops of year 2009; it's viewed as an Apple Macbook Air killer; and it's been rated better than HP Voodoo Envy 133 in design sensibility. Well, these acknowledgements are about Dell's Adamo, which, according to the company's Tuesday announcement, is ready for shipping.
On Tuesday, Dell unveiled some specification of its new Adamo notebook computer and confirmed that the company will start shipping next week, on 26 March. The company started taking pre-orders for its new Adamo notebook, priced at $1,999.
Dell touted that its new Adamo luxury laptop is the world's thinnest notebook, even thinner the MacBook Air. The Round Rock, Texas based manufacturer of utilitarian and affordable Inspiron notebooks detailed that its new Adamo notebook is 0.65 inches thick, a tenth of an inch thinner than the Macbook Air, and it has a frame weighing
4-pound, significantly heavier than the Macbook Air's (3 lbs) and the Voodoo Envy 133's (3.5 lbs).
Dell spokesman Bob Kaufman said, "The Adamo is the kind of thing you'd like to get as an anniversary or Christmas gift. It evokes this kind of emotion with people."
Dell's Adamo is made from a single piece of aluminum. It is the first notebook to use a 13.4-inch glass screen; the Envy 133 and MacBook Air have 13.3-inch widescreens.
It offers an external DVD burner or Blu-Ray reader option. The wireless options of Adamo are - built-in Wi- Fi, 802.11n, Bluetooth, and mobile broadband. It offers a 128-GB SSD that is the only storage option available. It uses graphics instead of a discrete graphics chipset, with 2 GB of DDR-3 memory. It offers a non-removable 8-cell battery unit, which is capable of running the notebook for 5+ hours.
Dell Adamo is available in pearl and onyx exteriors. The pearl exterior Adamo is designed from silver anodized aluminum with a pearl finish. The onyx black version has its lid brushed with aluminum. The two versions of Dell Adamo come packed in TUMI designer bags, with a full array of external peripherals. The pearl and onyx versions of Dell Adamo are priced at $1,999, but Dell said it will also roll out a $2,699 configuration; the company didn't disclose any details about the $2,699 configuration.
