According to a recent study carried out by researchers from the United States, it has been revealed that there are many cases where cancer survivors have been dealing with stress. The research team is of the view that many cancer survivors have had to deal with stress and tensions in their life, due to the memories of the tormenting health situation they were in.
More commonly known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, many patients have had to suffer even after surviving their disease.
The symptoms of PSTD include being nervous, having disturbing thoughts, as well as feeling emotionally guarded or just numb.
The survey is of the view that many survivors have consciously avoided situations where they might be questioned about their past experiences with the disease. It was also revealed that ex-patients also tried to avoid thinking about their past experiences with the disease.
Many people have even avoided follow-up treatments, because they are now too scared to visit hospitals. These people also tend to get flashbacks form the past and are constantly scared about contracting the disease again. There is need for proper counseling of these people so that they can overcome their past condition and let go of it completely.
"It's just very stressful for people to be told that they have cancer. You can't just assume that they feel bad now, but it will go away”, revealed Bonnie Green, of the Georgetown University.
