Possible Breakthrough in Stem Cell Technology

It has been revealed, in recent reports, that a new stem cell therapy has been developed by scientists in Britain for producing organs of the body. This is being done in order to possibly reduce the need for transplants of organs in the time to come. There is also always a risk of acceptability of the organ by the body and the costs and the availability of the organs.

The team of researchers is from the University Of Cambridge And The Sanger Institute. They are using novel technology to be able to correct a tricky mutation in the genes, to later grow fresh cells for the ailing organ. This technique is especially expected to benefit patients who need liver transplants.

This might heal the ailing organ and there wouldn’t be need for transplant. The experiment on mice has been successful, and this seems to have acted as a light of hope for the scientists.

The study is still on the initial stages but Allan Bradley from the Sanger Institute is of the view that if this experiment succeeds and can be commercially used as a treatment  mode, it will mean a huge breakthrough in the field of medicine and would be able to benefit thousands of people in need.

Those people who have to look for liver donors, and pay health costs for transplant, as well as dialysis before that. It would prolong their lives and make them healthy.
