Hugo Chavez to travel to Cuba for medical checkup

After visiting Cuba several times for the treatment of his cancer, Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela, is traveling to Cuba once again on Sunday for a comprehensive medical check-up.

Ever since he was diagnosed with cancer in June and a subsequent surgery to treat the disease, Chavez has already undergone four rounds of chemotherapy. The detailed medical exam which he will receive in Cuba on Monday will essentially confirm that there are no malignant cancer cells in his body.

With reference to his upcoming visit to Cuba, Chavez – while speaking to official VTV television – said that he wanted to decide about and sign “some things” with Vice President Elias Jaua and his ministers before going to Cuba for the check-up.

Despite the fact that hardly any information has been released about the nature of the cancer – rumoured to be in his “pelvic area” - for which Chavez is being treated, firebrand leftist leader has promised that he will notify the people of Venezuela about the outcome of the "vigorous" tests that he will undergo in Cuba this time round.

Stating that “We don't want to rush anything... Everything in its time,” Chavez – who has been serving as the President of the country since 1999 - and has been reiterating that he will recover in time to emerge victorious in the re-election in 2012.
