Can “twitterviews” grow popular in American journalism?

The American media got a new term "Twitterview" on Tuesday, when the ABC News' George Stephanopoulos interviewed John McCain, the Republican senator and former Republican presidential candidate, through the online social network and microblog, Twitter. "Twitterview" was the online interview between Stephanopoulos and McCain, conducted entirely on Twitter.

In the brief Twitterview that lasted for 15-20 minutes, Stephanopoulos asked the 72-year-old McCain 10 questions, which McCain answered via Twitter. Stephanopoulos asked McCain the questions associated with AIG, Pakistan, and Iran, and whether President Obama is putting the nation at risk of another terrorist attack, among other things.

Here’s how McCain answered some of the questions.

Stephanopoulos asked: AIG: Would a President McCain break bonus contracts? Obama teams say that would cause more harm than good.
McCain replied: I would have never bailed out AIG, the real scandal is billions to foreign banks.
Stephanopoulos asked: What worries you more: Pakistan or Iran?
McCain replied: both. The challenges are different but both significant.

Now, many tech analysts reckon that Twitterviews could grow popular in American journalism. The Twitterviews could become the popular way of interviewing celebrities and politicians. The Twitterviews could play great role in expanding community base of social networking sites. The social networks like Facebook and Myspace are expected to follow the new trend.
