Facebook allows users to specify their privacy

As part of the refurbishing announced by Facebook earlier this month, the social network has introduced a new "Everyone" option aimed at promoting a more extensive use of the site by both individuals as well as companies.

Quite unlike its earlier contentious redesign, wherein the user page and some features were altered, Facebook now allows users greater control with regard to specifying their privacy about their profiles, updates, videos, and photos. It is entirely up to the users to open up all or part of their profiles for anyone in the world.

As a result of the newest change by Facebook, those users who want to make their content public merely need to can go to their privacy page and change the setting to "Everyone." Though this change does not imply that will becomes easier for people to Google your content, it does mean that it makes it much easier for other Facebook users to find other users and their content.

Commenting on the new Facebook move, Dan Olds - principal analyst, Gabriel Consulting Group - said: "I think this is a good thing. It gives people on Facebook much more granular control over what they show or don't show the public. Giving customers more control over how they use your product is almost universally a good thing!"
