After Cornflakes, Kellogg’s Add Vitamin D to Other Products

Kellogg's would be adding vitamin D to its products like Coco Pops and Rice Krispies and Honey Loops in order to save children from rickets, a disease which occurs due to vitamin D deficiency.

It is not the first time that Kellogg's is adding any nutrient. In 1980s, it added iron to its products. Lots of researches were done in this regard and then, Kellogg's decided to add vitamin D. Kellogg's also conducted a research it was revealed that cases of rickets from 2001 to 2008 have spiked up by 140%.

Even, 82% dieticians has agreed that there is tremendous rise in the rickets cases and more than half of the doctors have affirmed that in last five years, they have checked some severe cases suffering from the disease.

Kellogg's was once maligned for presence of extra sugar and salt in its products and since then, it has been trying to improve its position and to emerge as a champion brand among kids. Kellogg's cornflakes were having vitamin D, but not other products. After witnessing the results of the researches, they decided to add vitamin D to other products as well.

Rickets occur when the body does not get enough vitamin D, which is found in abundance in sun rays or in products like eggs. Gradually, bones start getting weak and in severe cases, legs get bowed. In 1940s, the problems of rickets got lessen, but recently it has made a comeback.

Kellogg's is promoting its vitamin D products by presenting a realistic situation. They have mentioned that due to long nights and short days, and busy schedules, body is not able to get sufficient vitamin D, so one should choose healthy option.

By 2012, people would be able to buy Kellogg's products which would be having vitamin D.
