Chinese telecom group Huawei is having series of discussions with the US software giant Microsoft over negotiations, as latter part has blamed the former for infringing its Android software patent in their products.
Confirming the news, Chief Marketing Officer for Huawei Devices, Victor Xu affirmed that Microsoft came to them and asked for royalty payments as they found Huawei using Microsoft’s Android software in their products.
Things would take time to settle down as Microsoft has to settle down issues regarding Microsoft patents which they feel have been infringed, but things are going positive, that is sure, said Xu. Infringement of hardware implementations of Android is a matter which both the companies need to resolve together.
Xu said, "We always respect the intellectual property of companies. But we have 65,000 patents worldwide too. We have enough to protect our interests. We are a very important stakeholder in Android”.
Huawei is not the first company to face such allegations from Microsoft as 10 other giants had already paid royalties to Microsoft. Some of them are world’s largest smartphone developer like Samsung, HTC and Compal Electronics which include customers like Dell, HP, Toshiba, Acer, General Dynamics Itronix, and many more.
Huawei said they would handle the matter very peacefully and revealed the news of infringement while launching new smartphone and tablet in London. Xu, during the inaugural function, affirmed that Google’s protection plan for Android devices would be able to help them.
Google blamed Microsoft to be ‘patent broker’ and also affirmed that Microsoft has no right to abuse them in any way and cited an example to show corporate strategies of Microsoft. They said the way Microsoft attacked Linux and now Huawei are the perfect examples to show revenue generation schemes of Microsoft. Microsoft termed it a part of business.
