Jobs Aimed to Create Apple Wi-Fi for Original iPhone

While Steve Jobs has been laid to rest, the visionary is still part of the memories of Silicon Valley venture capitalist John Stanton, who had been involved with Steve while he was crafting the dream of iPhone.

Stanton is of the opinion that Jobs was never keen to run iPhone on AT&T’s network. The man who changed the face of IT was determined to make his own network. “He and I spent a lot of time talking about whether synthetically you could create a carrier using Wi-Fi spectrum”, said Stanton at the Law Seminar International Event in Seattle on Monday.

After struggling a lot with the creation of own network, Steve decided to go with AT&T, and signed the deal. This was the step which made iPhone the next big thing in the market. Though carriers used to be a significant part of development of device, Steve had some different plans. Apple ensured that there must be unique features in iPhone and AT &T was simply afforded the opportunity to sell it.

Even the future offerings like Android and other major mobile phone platforms also helped in consolidating the position of Apple in the cut-throat competition.

Though Stanton had been related with wireless carriers and even he was the first one to join McCaw Cellular, the national wireless provider, which was later turned into AT&T Wireless, Stanton has all words of appreciation to the brain behind iPhone. Stanton was the one who started Western Wireless, which produced an operator called Voicestream, which is now in the name of T-Mobile, after Voicestream was bought by Deutsche Telekom.

There have been many attempts to sideline carriers in the aim to establish its dominance in industry by Apple, but will it actually occur is yet to be seen.
