There is no doubt that sex is an inevitable part of a contended married life and that has a key role to play in making married life of elders above the age of 65, a success. A team of researchers from the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in the United States examined the married life of elders and found that those who indulged in regular sex had more chances of living a fruitful married life as compared to others.
The team asked 238 married people aged at least 65 in the US about how many times on an average they had sex in the last one year and found that there is significant connection between marital bliss and sexual interaction between the two. Factors such as age, gender, health status and satisfaction with financial situation were also taken into account to make the conclusion.
The team is of the view that the underlying connection between sex and happiness could ensure that there is timely intervention in terms of making people aware about sexual well being so that they can enjoy their married life to the fullest.
The findings of the study were shared by the team at an ageing conference in Boston, in the US.
There is popular notion that those who are workaholic by nature are more likely to be aloof from the bliss of sex as by the time they retire, there are so many differences between the two that they can’t live together. It has also been found that against men, more number of women is found to have call of their marriage. Against the divorce rate between 2007 and 2009, men stand at 3%, while women stand at 6%.
As the research is getting the desired attention, lead author of the research, Adrienne Jackson, is of the view that this study could lead to many new avenues to deal with sexual activity among aged married couples.
