Pine Tree Extract Could Improve Cognitive Skills, Says Study

In a recent study, a team of researchers at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) managed to find the positive side effects of extracts from pine tree. It has been found that when the extract known as Enzogenol was fed to as many as 60 people suffering with brain injury for a six or 12-week period, there were significant effects in terms of improving cognitive functions of patients.

The team asserted that the sample group had better ability to recognize name and identities of people even after suffering from brain injuries. There are many such cases where patients have lost their memory after being suffering accidents or even after stroke, but this extract is told to have appreciable results in store for such patients.

In view of such results, many people have to lose their life and as well as suffer from range of disabilities. Such concerns have made New Zealand to live under the financial burden of about $100 million a year.

“The pilot trial has revealed some promising findings for use of the Enzogenol supplement to improve everyday cognitive failures. We’ll now be looking at conducting a full scale clinical trial to determine the effectiveness”, said Senior Research Fellow Dr. Alice Theadom, who is of the sound belief that the extract has so far given ample hope to the team to proceed with the study.

There was glaring impact of the pine extract on patients who earlier used to forget simple things like name of places, directions etc, but now they can recall day to day activities. So far, there were some minor treatments for TBI, but this study has certainly paved way for many other treatments to address the concerns attached with accident related brain injuries.

The team as of now is focusing to see the impact of TBI on New Zealand so that subsequent steps are being taken to deal with cognitive dysfunction.
