Having launched its private beta in 2007, real-time news reading and sharing site and social activity aggregator Streamy has moved a step further by launching the public beta of its platform.
Streamy, which is a cross between Google Reader and FriendFeed, is trying to build off of other social network platforms. The personalized news service and social network allows users to follow news, blogs, and Digg, as well as import RSS subscriptions from their Google Reader account, to share them with their friends later on.
An ingenious feature of Streamy provides news and blog recommendations for users based upon their conduct on their Streamy site - depending on what news feeds users subscribe to, what they comment on, and what their friends are reading.
The novel Streamy interface allows users to build widgets for searches, so as to systematize diverse searches on a range of platforms. Users can also drag and drop anything on the page and as such, create shortcuts to sites and blogs.
The noteworthy social networking features that Streamy has added to its mix include: integrating tweets from Twitter users and status updates from friends on Facebook; and sharing of stories with friends across other social networks - like Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed, and Last. Fm - as well as via Streamy's on-site chat feature.
