Rare AIDS Strain increases its Spell Beyond Cameroon

Inspite of marvelous medical advancement, the fatal disease AIDS still continues to be a major health concern all over the world. The health experts are putting in their hard efforts to come out with effective measures in order to combat the health condition that continues to take a huge global population under its spell.

Consequently, on Friday a case report has clearly depicted that a rare AIDS strain that was identified among very few people in Cameroon, up till now, is believed to increase its spell even outside the boundaries of the West African country.

As per available data, up till now, authorities have tested more than 12,000 HIV-infected patients against group-N infections living across the Cameroon, including a latest case of a 57 years old man, reported by a French Doctor. The patient was hospitalized in the Saint Louis Hospital Paris earlier in January for treating his array of health problems, including fever, rash, swollen lymph glands as well as genital ulceration.

"This case of HIV-1 group-N primary infection indicates that this rare group is now circulating outside Cameroon, which emphasises the need for rigorous HIV epidemiological monitoring", concluded the team of experts led by Professor Francois Simon while insisting that the findings are important as patients are likely to experience severe symptoms along with gradually collapsing immune system.

In addition, the experts have notified that the particular patient was treated with a powerful blend of antiretrovirals and claimed to acknowledge good response from patient. There are several evidences to show that humans have contracted Group N from chimpanzees, most probably from an exposure to bushmeat infected with the simian equivalent of HIV, notified scientists.

In addition, the study authors have tagged this HIV-N infection case as very crucial because of severe clinical manifestations as well as early decline in the CD4 cell count.
