It seems like Mark Robitaille, the CEO and President of Martin Memorial Health Systems, is not willing to waste even a single second of his tenure in making the hospital superior in the state and perhaps in the country as well.
Earlier in 2010, the hospital was ranked among the Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the country by Thomson Reuters. In addition, it also bagged a National Employer of Choice designee for two consecutive year, 2009 and then in 2010-2011 as well.
But still, Robitaille is very much aware of the fact that it’s still long way to go and the road ahead is full of challenges. Coming Thursday will fetch one such challenge for him, since the medical center will be activating its electronic medical records. As per plans, records of new patient will be preserved on the electronic database of health systems.
Though the fresh system accounts for a massive expense of around $80 million, the hospital might easily recoup in excess of $10 million during the next eight years or so from the stimulus bill of the Federal Government.
The electronic medical record system is clearly a part of the strategic plan which was first proposed some years back. As part of an integrated system, three hospitals and around 11 ambulatory care sites will be established. While expressing his opinion regarding the upcoming development in functioning and processes of the hospital, Robitaille said that it is highly imperative for better functioning and effectiveness of the hospital that the data can be moved around the system seamlessly and as quickly as possible. Therefore, medical officers sitting in their clinics in St. Lucie West, and monitoring patients from there, can easily have a look at the records of their patients. In that way, the hospital will be really benefitted from seamless transfer of information.
