Carrier IQ, the company that provides analytics software for mobile phone manufacturers and wireless carriers, has recently gathered attention as it has been alleged that the software is breaching the privacy of the phone users.

The companies like AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Apple, HTC, Samsung and Motorola all have been accused of breaching the Federal Wiretap Act, the Stored Electronic Communications Act, and the Federal Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
It has been alleged that the software is capable of collecting information about mobile users where about web browsing, video browsing and can also read texts stored in the mobile. The Bavarian State office for Data Protection and the British Information Commissioner has contacted the companies seeking answer to the allegations.
Looking at the furry over the Carrier IQ’s software, Apple has promised that it will remove the software from its iPhone. Investigations are currently going on over the allegations imposed over the companies by the authorities concerned.
Senator Ed Markey was reported saying: “It appears that Carrier IQ’s software captures a broad swath of extremely sensitive information from users that would appear to have nothing to do with diagnostics including who they are calling”.
Although Carrier IQ is being questioned, there is no concrete evidence to prove that the software is breaching the privacy of the users. Carrier IQ has informed that it doesn’t access or store the details of the users. Apple is also one of the companies who are facing the lawsuits.
The Carrier IQ is used by wireless service providers and device makers to identify loopholes of the services like drop call problems and battery drain.
