Federal Judge Restricted RIM To Use Brand Name BBX

It has been reported that Research in Motion has experienced its very first jailbreak of a mobile device, during the last week. The dramatic episode came in lime light when a group of notorious hackers have succeeded to gain access to the BlackBerry PlayBook.

The cyber attack has shattered the security and permitted everyone to jailbreak a PlayBook tablet while compromising the system security. It has been reported that initially, the RIM had played the jailbreak down, although, decided to take some action son after the procedure was leaked publically. Afterwards, the RIM authorities have released an over-the-air update, as an attempt to counter the jailbreak as well as to address the root cause.

Besides this, the statement clearly depicted that the company is not in a mood to comment on pending litigation, although, the RIM has exposed the new brand name for its next-generation mobile platform. Meanwhile, in a latest statement, the RIM has notified that the new name would be BlackBerry 10.

The RIM authorities have notified that its latest phones are expected to hit the market, most probably by the next year. On the other hand, a majority of market analysts have anticipated that the company will be able to launch its products during the second half of 2012.

The statements came in response to a decision made by a federal judge in New Mexico, restricting the renowned BlackBerry manufacturer from using the name BBX. "The BBX mark is identical to the mark which RIM is allegedly using to present its BBX product ... and despite the fact that the two companies are not direct competitors, the parties' respective BBX products are highly related", court said in the ruling.
