Authorities Fighting Hard Against Flu

The campaign launched by joint efforts of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness and the Jefferson County Public Schools concluded after vaccinating 20,000 Louisville people against flu.

The campaign was launched on 13th of October for 90,000 people of Jefferson County Public Schools and for teaching the staff. They were offered with free-of-cost flu jabs. It is for the third time when the Health Department has launched a campaign to provide vaccination to vulnerable people.

As the flu season has arrived, the authorities have geared up to make sure this time children, expecting mums, elders and people with weaker immune system remains protected from flu. Kentucky and Indiana, till now, has not recorded any flu cases. It seems like the authorities have learnt a lesson from previous year’s outbreak of flu which took away many lives.

Every year, the authorities organize camps to help people in getting vaccinated against the flu. It is highly recommended that toddlers, aged 6 months to 8 years, should get vaccinated at least twice a year.

The authorities took the decision of vaccinating kids in 2010. However, still every year, about 20,000 children under the age of 5 are hospitalized because of flu complications. It has been informed that in past years, there has been a sudden increase in the number of deaths occurring due to seasonal flu.

However, it has been reported that in the US, the seasonal flu has not been able to grip any life yet, thanks to vaccination campaigns held all over the country. So far, about 129 million doses of flu vaccine have been distributed. People have been advised to maintain hygiene by washing hands before and after having meal and to avoid coming in contact with infected person.
