Government Coming Up With New Plans for GPs

Government is planning and working to get together health and social services closer resulting, which, GPs in the region soon can site their contracts being dissolved to Scottish control as part of the same plans.

Till now, all of GPs priorities were negotiated on a UK-wide basis and also they had an annual budget of £714 million for Scotland but the new proposals are suggesting the shift of the responsibility to the Scottish Government and also there is news that the action or approval of the proposals could see approx three-quarters negotiated separately for Scotland.

Regarding the new proposals, Health Secretary Ms. Nicola Sturgeon has very positive views because, according to her, the new proposal is primarily focusing upon public health and thus, the responsibility for the elements of such a contract would definitely enable doctors to get a chance to play majorly in integrating health and social care.

UK contract is serving GPs in the region since 2004 and had been delivering very important benefits to patients since the time. Thus, the British Medical Association is considering the decision of getting any changes to the GP contract very vital and also they are insisting that the action or the procedure is evidence-based.

Changes could transfer thousands of community care staff members from local authorities to health boards thus seriousness of the same stands big.

The Health Secretary will soon release some details upon the proposals (hopefully by the end of this week) and GPs across the country will be consulted over the next three months.

In her statement, she said that "I made clear our radical plans for integrating health and social care. GPs will be key to our ability to successfully meet the challenges we face".
