It has been reported that the top most advisory body of the US, the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity, has asked editors of the Science and Nature journal not to disclose the methodology by which the lethal form of bird flu can be created.
The request of the Advisory Board has led to a debate as the experts and scientists are now questioning the academic freedom of speech. However, the Board has supported its request by saying that disclosure could lead to misuse of the findings.
It has been unveiled that in an experiment over bird flu, the researchers of the Wisconsin University and the Erasmus Medical Centre, came across a powerful strain of bird flu which is capable of being transmitted to a large number of lives, swiftly.
The US authorities invested a large chunk of money over the experiments on bird flu. But now the Advisory Board is worrisome that of the recent findings of the researchers of Wisconsin University and the Erasmus Medical Centre is disclosed then it would led to misuse.
It has come to light that there a number of laboratories where biological weapons and potential preventative vaccines are being developed to fight terrorist attacks. Looking at the dangerous work being carried out in the laboratories, the concerned groups are now raising brows over the dangerous activities of the scientists.
There is always fear of the leakage of the essential documents from such laboratories which may put the innocent lives under threat. Since the Advisory Board is concerned over the management of the crucial information held by the researchers of Wisconsin University and the Erasmus Medical Centre it is now being discussed as to what method shell be used so that the detailed findings of the experiment is disclosed to the scientists only.
