A report published in the Pediatrics has revealed that those tots who were earlier fat but have reduced their chubbiness by the time they reach at the age of seven were free from the risk of asthma. In contrast to this, if a child is not able to reduce the weight then he is at an increased risk to get diagnosed with asthma.
In order to reach at the above conclusion, they flew in around 2,000 Swedish children who were seven years old and obese. It also got revealed that those who have always remained fit are also not s safe as the ones who have reduced their weight.
Jessica Magnusson from Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, affirmed, "High body mass index (BMI) during the first 4 years does not increase the risk of asthma at school age among children who have developed a normal weight by age seven".
It is very important to maintain optimum body mass index (BMI) as this is the alone factor which acts as a linking thread between asthma and sensitization to inhalant allergens. A lot of studies have taken place which has affirmed that obesity is the reason for asthma, but none have cleared the reason.
Their research not only put forth the reason but also cleared that obesity is one of the strongest reason for causing asthma in children. There are many other issues as well which adds to the risk of asthma such as parental history, allergy to specific things and whether mother used to smoke when she was pregnant
All these factors do add to the risk, but not up to that extent at which obesity affects. It raises risk by double fold in child, said Magnusson.
This research has clearly stated that childhood obesity and asthma are closely linked. Therefore taking it as a cautionary note, parents should make sure that their children remains fit.
