Pfizer Accused Of Lowering Lipitor’s Price To Gain Domination In the Generic Mar

It has been reported that Pfizer has been accused of using unauthentic practices of lowering the prices of its drug to gain domination in the generic market. For long enjoying the monopoly for its drug Lipitor, the drug manufacturer Pfizer has entered into the generic market, as the patent of its Lipitor expired last month.

With the help of its generic version of Lipitor, atorvastatin, Pfizer is expected to maximize its revenue. However, it has been observed by the policy makers that Pfizer has reduced the prices of its generic drug to through completion in the market, which is not regarded as healthy competition.

The loss of patent has led Pfizer into such practice. Patent helps drug manufacturers in marinating their goodwill and monopoly in the market. However, the generic version of Liptor has helped Pfizer in earning handsome revenue.

It has been informed that in 2010, Lipitor was successful in booking sales of $7.27 billion. It has further been reported that Pfizer with the hope of maintaining its domination in the market has launched a program called Lipitor For You.

The program is aimed at patients. All those patients, who avail for the program, receive discount card or coupon. Through the discount card, the patients are given the opportunity of buying Lipitor for only $4 per month.

The program will remain in effect by 2112. Through this program, the company has been able to book not only good revenue but has also attracted many more customers. However, the policy makers have opposed the move of Pfizer of providing discount. It is expected that in the coming times, the Food and Drug Administration would impose heavy fine on Pfizer for attracting unhealthy marketing strategies
