Latest reports have revealed that Brazil doctors have decided, for the time being, not to go for surgical treatment for the sake of separating a set of conjoined twins. The conjoined twins have two heads, though they are sharing one body and various critical organs.
While expressing her concerns and opinion regarding the critical state of the conjoined twins one of the doctors from Belem's Santa Casa de Misericordia Hospital, Dr. Neila Dahas revealed in her statement that it is not possible to take a judgment in context of the surgery, not only due to physical reasons, but various ethical issues are also obstructing the surgery.
The two-headed infant is in fact a set of conjoined twins who share a single body due to an extremely atypical birth disorder, doctors revealed during their statement on yesterday.
The twins, who were born on Monday, were named Jesus and Emanuel with the aim of honoring the forthcoming Christmas holiday. The twins have separate brains and spinal cords, though they share various critical internal organs, thereby providing an impression, when viewed externally, of being a single baby having two heads.
Since both brains are operating well and the twins are presently in steady state, doctors have discarded any sort of surgical treatment for the moment.
In this regard, the hospital authorities were reported saying that it initially appeared that it would be twins but later they found that they were joined together mainly as a result of delay that took place in the cellular division.
"It's important to understand that this is two babies and not one baby with two heads. They underwent a battery of tests, and it was found that there are two distinct brains and spinal columns, but they share the other organs", revealed Dr. Neila Dahas, who is working as the Assistant Director at the hospital.
