Loud Music Can Impair Hearing, Say Researchers

A research conducted over the impact of MP3 players on the ears of youth has found that the continuous use of it could affect the hearing capability of the youths. The research was carried out by the team of researchers from Tel Aviv University.

The lead researcher Professor Chava Muchnik pointed out that it is necessary to take action immediately so that youth could saved from the hearing lose. For the research, the researchers recruited about 289 participants belonging to the age group of 13 to 17.

The participants were questioned about their listening habits and about their preferred level of music. Later on, they measured the effect of different levels of music over 74 teens in quiet and noisy place.

It has been informed that 81% of the teenagers prefer listening music through personal listening devices (PLDs) for about four to three hours daily. Loud music played on PLDs can have gradual impact on the ears of youths. The worst part is that they might not even come to know as to how their hearing capabilities have been devastated through loud music.

The researchers have pointed out that PLDs should be used least as it is harmful for the ears.

Everybody likes to listen to music, but it is necessary to keep in mind the adverse outcomes of over listening to it. The findings of the research have been published in the International Journal of Audiology. In the journal, Prof. Muchnik said, “In 10 or 20 years it will be too late to realize that an entire generation of young people is suffering from hearing problems much earlier than expected from natural aging”. It is hoped that youth will take a serious note of the findings and will reduce the use of PLDs.
