In a recent revelation, it has been found that a Chinese couple has managed to get four boys and four girls through illegally enlisted two surrogate mothers. The case has shocked one and all over the fact that while Chinese law instructs having only one baby, there is a couple which has managed to get eight.
While it has certainly raised questions on the Chinese law also, the couple from Guangzhou is told to have spent nearly one million Yuan ($160,000) for the same. For popular Chinese Central Television news anchor Bai Yansong, this news seems to be more of a fairy tale. To have one family with eight kids ... in an era of family planning where most people have just one, the contrast is just too much, said the anchor.
As the news hit the media, there are reports which have tagged the mother as "babaotai muqin", or "octomom", which refers to giving birth to eight babies.
It has been clarified that the actual mother gave birth to two babies and the other two gave birth to three babies each. In order to give the best possible care to the babies who were born in September and October last year, 11 nannies were roped in. However, the identity of the couple has been kept under covers till news.
It has been told that the law makes it prohibitive for Chinese medical institutions and personnel from performing gestational surrogacy. However, there are many couples who shove off the idea of starting a family immediately after the marriage, and hence prefer to go for such medical procedures. It is being believed that this case has made the authorities think over the life of the policy of small family in China as there is growing perception that people do want the policy to change now.
