Mother narrates how python had nearly killed her son

Port Douglas mother Rachael Sullivan narrated the whole incident in which a powerful python had nearly killed her two-year-old toddler.

Twenty-year-old Sullivan was playing with Kye Dalton and his elder brother in the family's garage on December 26 evening when a 4-meter python latched on Kye's left leg and started coiling around his body.

The shocked mother tried to free her son from the python, but all in vain.

Narrating the horrible incident, she said, "He just screamed only once and I just grabbed him and tried pulling the snake off but I couldn't budge it."

Then, she carried Kye into the street with the python still coiled on his body and started screaming for help. Neighbor Scott Tunnie and his fiancee Xena Reeves came out to help her. Mr. Tunnie squeezed the python’s head, but the python then wrapped around Mr. Tunnie’s arm.

The python could be brought under control only when two more neighbors rushed to their help.

Meanwhile, Ms Reeves called paramedics. Kye was first rushed to Mossman Hospital, and later moved to Cairns Base Hospital. There were four bite marks and signs of bruising on his lower leg. But, the test for venom came negative.

Two days later Kye was waving goodbye to the python, when it was being into forest.
